Port Guard participates in Operation Ágata at the Port of Itaguaí
Last Tuesday (14), the Port Guard of Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ) participated in Operation Ágata, which takes place regularly at the Port of Itaguaí under the coordination of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces (EMCFA) of the Ministry of Defense (MD). The actions also involved the Brazilian Navy (MB), the Brazilian Internal Revenue Service (RFB) and the Mangaratiba Environment Secretariat, with the aim of strengthening security in border areas to repress drug trafficking, smuggling, trafficking weapons and ammunition, in addition to environmental crimes.
According to the superintendent of the Port Guard, José Tadeu Diniz, “The Group of Extraordinary Actions (GAEX) of the Port Guard inspected the accommodation and parking of stevedores and truck drivers, located in the port facilities and in the terminals, as well as intensified inspections at the access to the port and on departure, without disturbing port operations”.
The military of the Port Captaincy Police Station in Itacuruçá inspected vessels, with ostensible patrolling in Sepetiba Bay; staff from the Mangaratiba Environment Secretariat boarded fishing vessels found in the Environmental Protection Area (APA); and the Federal Revenue Service team was ready for any action in its area of competence.
The entire Operation Ágata was supported by a balloon for intelligent monitoring of large areas, such as the port. Using Artificial Intelligence, the system acquires high-quality daytime and thermal images, georeferenced, issuing alerts against space violations (electronic fence) and pre-defined rules. Integrated with the Port Guard's security system, the device sent alerts about the captured data, in real time, allowing a prompt reaction.
